
My Experiences of The Hmong RPA.
The past 40 years, I have worked with the Hmong RPA in various levels: personal ambition, teaching classes in middle and high schools, developing primary teaching books, and was in the Hmong literacy committee in Minneapolis Public Schools.
During my teaching years, I taught spelling, reading, poem and essay. The most challenge issue was the teaching of Hmong grammar because Hmong grammar was not developed. Therefore, there was no vocabulary for it. To get through this, I had to create new words and to use some English words. To help my students in writing, I and my co-worker developed a guided booklet that consisted of the principles of a good writing.
In the Hmong literacy committee, we expanded our counting numbers, developed some geometrical shapes, create some new Hmong words, and evented Hmong days of the week. We also tried to simplified the Hmong consonants, added new consonants and a new vowel. Once our Hmong literacy committee proposed to use of our simplified consonants in a primary teaching book, but there was an opposition. As a result, the book was printed with the original consonants. But our dream of simplified consonants is not dead. I hope that the creation of this website will help the Hmong to accept new ideas and new creations which will expand the Hmong language.
